Working in a Midrand plate-making environment
Our base in Midrand, Gauteng supports label and packaging printers in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban, Cape Town and Gqeberha, with courier delivery and collection coordination handled from one working floor. The pace changes day to day, but the standard does not: neat files, correct plate sizing, careful packing and clear handover notes. If you are comfortable with practical production work and can spot small errors before they become costly, you may fit in well here.
We are a small, focused team, so people here usually learn more than one part of the process. That can include artwork preflight, file checking, imposition planning, plate trimming, plate labelling or dispatch packing. In a city like Midrand, where deadlines can be tight and load-shedding can interrupt routines, a calm approach matters just as much as technical ability.
Roles we hire for
We do not hire for flashy job titles. We look for people who can handle the daily work that keeps plate production moving and printers supplied on time. Depending on business needs, we may need support in production, customer communication, logistics or prepress.
- Prepress and file checking support
- Plate-making and finishing assistance
- Plate mounting and labelling
- Dispatch packing and collection coordination
- Client services and job follow-up
- Technical support for print jobs and artwork issues
If you have experience in flexo, print production or a similar detail-heavy environment, that will help. We also value people who can follow instructions, ask the right questions and keep records tidy.
What we expect from new team members
Our work depends on consistency. A plate that is trimmed a few millimetres off or a file that was not checked properly can affect a whole press run. That is why we look for people who pay attention to measurements, names, file versions and packing labels. You do not have to know everything on day one, but you must be willing to learn and take responsibility for your part of the job.
- Good attention to detail
- Clear spoken and written communication
- Ability to work with deadlines
- Basic computer confidence for job tracking and file handling
- Willingness to work as part of a small team
- Respect for safety, clean work areas and customer confidentiality
How we work with printers across South Africa
Because we serve customers across the country, our team needs to think beyond the production floor. A job for Durban may need different packing or collection timing than one going to Pretoria, and coastal humidity can affect how plates are handled and stored. We keep an eye on practical details like dispatch notes, labelling and transport checks so each order leaves in good condition.
People who enjoy organised, steady work tend to do well here. There is plenty of variety, from short-run label jobs to larger packaging work, and the team often needs to solve small problems quickly. It is the kind of environment where a good question can save time, and a careful final check can prevent a reprint.
Who leads the team
Flexo Printer Plates was founded in 2007 and is led by Managing Director Sibusiso Mthembu. The team also includes Ayesha Naidoo in production, Pieter van Wyk in prepress, Lerato Molefe in client services, Morne Jacobs in plate mounting and Zinhle Dlamini in logistics. If you join us, you will be working with people who understand the pressure of print schedules and the value of clear handovers.
We keep communication practical. That means fewer guesses, fewer delays and a better working day for everyone involved. If you like a workplace where each person has a clear role and where the end result matters, you should feel at home here.
How to apply
To apply, send your CV through the enquiry form on our contact page and include a short note about the kind of work you have done before. If you have experience in plate-making, prepress, print finishing, logistics or client coordination, mention it clearly. We review applications as they come in and keep CVs on file for suitable roles that may open later.
Please do not send a long cover letter. A simple summary of your experience, where you are based and what type of role you are looking for is enough to start. If you are in Midrand, Johannesburg, Pretoria, the East Rand or West Rand, that can be useful for planning site access and daily travel.
