Start With the Job Details
The quickest way to get useful support is to send the job basics first. We need the substrate, ink system, press type, repeat size, finished format and whether the work is for labels, cartons, sleeves or other packaging. If you are not sure what matters most, send what you have and we will help sort it out.
For printers working under tight schedules or when load-shedding has interrupted planning, it helps to note what stage the job is at. A quick description of the issue saves time and reduces the chance of rework.
- Job name and customer reference
- Substrate type and finished size
- Press width and repeat length
- Ink type and any special finishing
- What you are seeing on press or on proof
Plate Suitability Checks Before Production
Different label and packaging jobs call for different plate characteristics. We look at what the print is meant to do, where the image sits on the pack and how fine the detail needs to be. A wide solid area on a corrugated or rougher surface is not treated the same as small text on a clear label, so the plate choice has to match the application.
In South African print rooms, humidity, storage conditions and transport also matter. Coastal conditions in Durban, Cape Town and Gqeberha can affect handling, while heat in storage rooms can impact consistency if plates are left out too long. We help you think through those practical points before the job goes ahead.
- Fine type and small barcodes
- Solid areas and heavy coverage
- Screen work and tonal detail
- Press surface and impression demands
File Issues We Can Help You Spot
Many delays start in the file stage. Missing bleed, low-resolution images, broken links, unwanted overprints and mixed colour spaces can all create print problems later. If your artwork is already set, we can review the file and flag the areas that may affect the plate or the final print result.
When a job has been changed after approval, send the latest version only and make it clear what changed. That avoids confusion and stops us from working off the wrong revision. If you are comparing proofs, keep both versions together so differences are easier to track.
- Bleed and trim checks
- Image resolution and artwork clarity
- Missing fonts or linked files
- Colour setup and separation issues
- Last minute copy changes
Imposition, Repeat and Press Fit Advice
Good plate planning starts with the press. If the repeat is off, the job will fight you on press and waste time. We assist with imposition planning so the artwork sits correctly on the cylinder or sleeve layout, and so the final plate size matches the press set-up.
For multi-up jobs, we also help with spacing, label count and registration points. This is especially useful for printers handling short runs, mixed SKUs or seasonal packaging where a small setup error can throw out several metres of material.
- Repeat and layout alignment
- Multi-up label planning
- Registration point checks
- Press width and plate fit
Proof Comparison and Press Readiness
If you have a proof and the press sheet does not match it, we can help check where the difference starts. That might be in the file, the screening, the plate mount or the press settings. A careful comparison at this stage is cheaper than stopping mid-run to correct a problem.
We also look at the practical side of readiness. If the job is going out for courier delivery to Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban, Cape Town or Gqeberha, the plates must be packed and labelled properly so they arrive in order and ready for mounting. That saves a lot of handling at the receiving end.
- Proof versus file comparison
- Registration and image position
- Text sharpness and solid fill checks
- Plate labelling for correct press use
How to Send a Support Request
Clients reach us through the enquiry form on our contact page. Use that to tell us what the job is, what problem you are seeing and whether you need advice, remake support or collection coordination. If there is a deadline, mention it clearly so we can plan the sequence of work and dispatch packing.
Our Midrand team handles plate making, file checking, plate trimming, remake support and technical job advice for printers across Gauteng and beyond. Sibusiso Mthembu leads the business with support from Ayesha Naidoo, Pieter van Wyk, Lerato Molefe, Morne Jacobs and Zinhle Dlamini, so the right person can respond to the right part of the job.
- Use the enquiry form on the contact page
- Attach the latest artwork or proof files
- Describe the issue in plain language
- Include the delivery area or collection need
When You Need Follow-Up Support
Some jobs need a second look after the first plate is made or after a press test. That can happen when the substrate changes, the artwork is revised, or the printer wants to improve image hold and detail. We can talk through what changed and what should be adjusted before the next run.
If the job is for packaging in a busy production schedule, it is worth keeping a short record of what worked. Note the substrate, screening choice, mounting position and any press setting that gave a better result. That kind of record makes the next order easier and keeps production moving with fewer surprises.
- Remake support after a revision
- Advice after a press test
- Job notes for repeat orders
- Practical support for ongoing print runs
